How to Choose a BOPP Tape Slitter Rewinder

Choosing a BOPP tape slitter rewinder is mostly about matching six specifications to your plant. This guide walks through each one.

1. Working width

Your working width must be at least as wide as your widest jumbo roll. Goldmann's BOPP slitting machines cover 1000 mm to 2000 mm. Choosing a width larger than you need adds cost; choosing smaller limits which coating line you can pair it with.

2. Speed and output

Machine speed sets how quickly you convert each jumbo roll. The GA-SRT runs at 250 metres per minute and the GA-T3 at 200. Calculate your required output per shift and remember that real throughput is lower than rated speed because of roll changes, threading and setup.

3. Changeover design

Idle time between rolls is where output is lost. A machine where one shaft stays stationary while the other rewinds, as on the GA-SRT, changes over while running. For lower volumes a simpler arrangement is often adequate.

4. Rewind diameter and length

Decide the largest log roll you need. The GA-SRT turret function handles rolls up to 1000 m or 250 mm diameter; the GA-T3 rewinds up to 160 mm diameter.

5. Tension control and cut quality

Uneven tension causes telescoped rolls and loose edges. Look for individual pneumatic clutches on each shaft and an appropriate cutting system for your film. Ask which cutting systems are available and which suit easy-tear or glass-clear BOPP.

6. Support and customisation

Ask about installation, operator training, spares and remote support. Goldmann machines include a WiFi-enabled control system with remote troubleshooting, and in-house engineering means the machine can be customised if your requirements are unusual.
